Why Remodel My Kitchen Cabinets?

Have you ever noticed that people gather in the kitchen?  Whether its family or friends, everyone seems to congregate around the pots and pans.  When I was growing up, that wasn’t the case – In fact, mom often felt left out of the conversation because she was in the kitchen cooking. Today, the cook is more likely to be embarrassed by the condition and/or the crowding of his/her kitchen than feel left out of the conversation.

Often, people are hesitant to tackle the problem and remodel because of the many unknowns and potential pitfalls.  Here are a few suggestions that will help you get started:

  1. Gather a folder of ideas (Magazine pictures of Kitchens you like, a drawing with measurements of you present kitchen.
  2. Research cabinet brands on the internet.
  3. Research the cabinet dealers in your area.

Equally important with the brand of cabinets is the quality of the design (There really are pitfalls in designing a kitchen.).   A good designer has several measurable qualities:

  • Years of experience or a great mentor (one never stops learning)
  • Creativity (a great designer will give you more than one idea)
  • Communicates well with customers to learn their needs and wants (listens)
  • Has the computer skills to design creatively

To research cabinet dealers in your area, Google “cabinets in <your town>”  Or, <your county>

Another good place to start, if you live in the Olympia, Washington area is www.cabinetsbyTrivonna.com.

See you next time as we look into some of the mistakes one might make in designing a Kitchen.

Love this new blog! Is that really the same kitchen? What an incredible differrence!

    • Trivonna Says:

Yes, Monica. It realy is the same kitchen. If you look at the top of the “before” picture, you will see a fraction of the display ledge above the cabinets. The only structural change made in this remodel was to take out the pantry (by-fold doors). The cook-top and tile mountains are where the pantry was. Thanks for asking.
